Eradication of illiteracy:

Syria achieved huge progress in the field of bridging the learning  chasm of the older people. In such field the country took many steps in order to fulfill the aim of education for all, so as to attain its objectives in the eradiation of poverty, achieve equality between genders and sponsor sustainable development.

- Since the late sixty Syria took a big strides in eradicating the illiteracy, when at that time the percentage of illiteracy was above  50 percent, plans, programmes and syllabuses were put to that aim. In the year 1972 Syria issued the literacy code, and a greater success was achieved in that direction, the illiteracy was substantially diminished ,the statistics the reviewed in years that follow indicated a reduction of illiteracy from 19 percent in 2004 to 14,2 in 2007. It was vital to refer here, that that illiteracy reduction was translated in the real life with the announcement of the provinces of AlQunetera, Al-Suweda and Tarrtos in the 2008, as provinces without illiteracy. And for such objectives:

  1. Efforts were made  to fulfill the basic needs of individuals from all age groups especially for the girls and women.
  2. Training workshops on programs planning were arranged in the domain of illiteracy eradication and teaching of older people.
  3. The experiences and the skills of the employees were strengthened in the field of illiteracy eradication.
  4. The programmes improvement were prepared for the older people learning.

Also it is vital in this connection to mention the perpetual  keenness and seriousness of HH. Ms. Asma Al-Assad in supporting the rights to education for every Syrian citizen.
